NFL Players Currently Having Their Primes Squandered

Myles Garrett

Myles Garrett just broke the sack record, and is one of the most dominant players of the 21st century. It took him hundreds of less snaps to break the sack record than it took TJ Watt or Michael Strahan, who are both first ballot HOFer. As good as the defense is, many thanks to Myles, the Browns struggles to find a QB continue to plague the franchise. They've had 16 starting QBs since he was drafted, and there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. Since he signed a record-breaking deal to stay in Cleveland this offseason, looks like Myles will need to get comfortable sitting through another rebuild.

Joe Burrow

It's easy to point to injuries derailing Burrow and the Bengals' hopes of contending, but of the last three seasons, only one did Burrow actually have a season-ender. The Bengals made the right move going to get an established backup like Flacco this past season, but for the third consecutive season they failed to put a defense on the field that was even close to league average. In fact, it's only getting worse. The Bengals were bottom five in yards per game, second last in points per game, and last in rush yards per game. If the defense isn't properly addressed this offseason, things could get very uncomfortable.

Maxx Crosby

In a world when we use the term dawg to describe everyone, Crosby is truly one of the biggest dawgs in the league. The guy loves football, and he has an unlimited motor. He has 32 games since 2019 where he played 100% of the defensive snaps (!). He's not just an innings-eater either, he's productive.

Nothing more Maxx Crosby wants to do than win, but the Raiders actually sent him home the final two weeks of the season to tank. Do everyone a favor and trade Maxx to a contender please while he's in his prime.

Justin Jefferson

Justin has been in quarterback limbo this whole year. The further along we get, the more it looks like the decision to move off of Sam Darnold for JJ McCarthy was the wrong one. Even if McCarthy can live up to his potential, that might not be until next year or the year after (and that looks like a big MIGHT). The Vikings have a roster that can compete, and especially when you have a guy like Jefferson, you need to figure out your QB as soon as possible.

Trey McBride

Trey is a little younger than most of the guys on this list (other than Justin Jetterson), and he has a lot of great football ahead. I wanted to give Trey some shine though since he plays for the dumpster fire that is the Cardinals. Trey just set the single season record for TE receptions and his QBs were Kyler Murray, who might be looking for a new home this offseason, and Jacoby Brissett. He might be one of the best players in the NFL period, but the Cardinals have never had a winning record in his career.
